Frequently asked questions
Which Siargao surf spot is best for beginners?
Jacking Horse, a hundred metres from Cloud 9, on a mid tide with light wind. On very small days a soft-top on the Daku Island sandbar is the other option. Cloud 9 itself is not a beginner wave.
Do all Siargao surf spots work on the same tide?
No. Most General Luna reefs want mid to high water and get shallow and fast on the low. Some of the boat breaks handle lower tides better. Each spot page lists the tide it wants.
When is the surf season in Siargao?
The most consistent months are August to November, when the south-west habagat blows offshore on the east coast. The north-east amihan from December to March brings bigger, windier swell and sends people to the north and west coasts.
How many surf spots are there on Siargao?
About a dozen worth knowing, plus a handful of secret reefs that depend on rare swell angles. This guide covers the ten we surf and guide most.
