When is the Philippines Pro 2026?

The waiting period runs from 31 October to 10 November 2026 at Cloud 9, General Luna, Siargao. Competition days are called each morning on the forecast, so not every day in the window is a contest day.

Can I surf Cloud 9 during the contest?

Not the main peak on competition days, when the contest area is closed to the public. On lay days it reopens; check with the event before paddling out. Every other spot on the island stays open throughout.

Where is the best place to watch?

The Cloud 9 boardwalk and the rebuilt towers, which stand directly inshore of the takeoff zone. Come early: the good spots on the deck go before the first horn. Outside the marked contest area, the channel gives a view from the water.

How do I know if it is a competition day?

The call goes out early each morning based on the swell and wind. Ask us at the shop or check the event feed before you walk down; we are a few hundred metres from the scaffolding and usually know before it hits the feeds.

Where should I stay for the Philippines Pro?

General Luna, within walking distance of the boardwalk if you can get it. Rooms near Cloud 9 go months ahead, and most within walking distance are already gone. Our own rooms are booked through Airbnb; check the rooms page.

Is this the first WSL Championship Tour event in the Philippines?

Philippines Pro 2026 at Cloud 9

From 31 October to 10 November 2026 the wave in front of our shop hosts the Philippines Pro, the first World Surf League Championship Tour event ever held in the Philippines. This page pulls together everything we have written about the contest and everything a visitor needs to plan around it: the format, where to watch, where to surf, where to sleep, and how to get here and get around. We will keep it updated as the fortnight approaches.

What it is

The Philippines Pro is not a new event. It has run at Cloud 9 in various forms since the mid-nineties, most recently as a Qualifying Series contest for surfers trying to reach the top tier. For 2026 and 2027 the WSL has promoted it to a full Championship Tour stop: twenty-four men and sixteen women, the world title race, and ranking points on the line late in the season before the year closes at Pipeline in December. Cloud 9 was chosen because it is a short, hollow, right-hand reef break that barrels close to shore over a defined reef, so everyone can see everything. The dates sit at the tail of the habagat, when the offshore wind is still reliable and the biggest swells of the year are arriving.

How the waiting period works

Like every WSL event, this one runs on a window rather than a schedule. Each morning the contest directors look at the swell, wind and tide and decide whether to run. Good days get heats; small or blown-out days become lay days. If you want to see a specific round, plan to be here for several days rather than one, and build your own surfing around the same call: competition days you surf elsewhere at dawn and watch by mid-morning, lay days you surf wherever you like.

Where to watch

The boardwalk is the natural grandstand and it will be full. The towers were rebuilt in 2026 after Super Typhoon Odette took them apart in 2021, and the top deck stands directly inshore of the takeoff zone — the best angle on the island for reading a heat. Come early, because the good vantage points go before the first horn. Bring water and reef-safe sunblock; there is very little shade out there. If you are in the water, the contest area is marked and patrolled, but the channel outside it gives you a view nobody with a wristband has.

Where to surf while the peak is closed

This is the part visitors worry about, and it is the part that matters least. The same swell that runs the contest lights up reefs the length of the coast, and most of them will be emptier than usual because half the island is on the boardwalk watching. Jacking Horse for beginners, longboarders and anyone who wants volume over drama. Go early; it will be busy.
Tuason Point when the swell swings north, for experienced surfers on a pushing tide.
Stimpy's and Rock Island by boat, booked the day before rather than the morning of.
Pacifico, ninety minutes north, for long clean rides and nobody in the water.
Salvacion when the east coast is blown out.

Check the surf forecast the night before and ask us at the counter. We will know which days are on before the feeds do.

Tip: Book everything now. Rooms within walking distance of the boardwalk are mostly gone, flights into Sayak fill months ahead, and board rental for the fortnight goes early too. Coming a week either side of the window gets you the same swell with far fewer people.

Where to stay

General Luna, as close to the boardwalk as you can get. We rent a small number of rooms within walking distance of the shop and the Cloud 9 boardwalk, booked through Airbnb, with board storage and lessons and bikes on hand. Expect accommodation prices across the island to be higher than the guidebook rate during a Championship Tour window.

Getting here

Fly into Sayak Airport (IAO) at Del Carmen, ideally via Cebu, and give yourself a night in Cebu or Manila on the way home rather than a same-day international connection. Sayak takes small turboprops and cancellations cluster in bad weather. Getting around

Rent a motorbike. It is the only sensible way to reach the northern breaks while the main peak is closed. Our Yamaha Mio scooters take a surf rack; Pacifico is about ninety minutes, Tuason ten. Wear the helmet, ride slowly, and do not ride home from the parties.

The Abu Dhabi context

In August the WSL cancelled the Surf Abu Dhabi Pro, which was scheduled after Siargao. The Philippines Pro was added to the tour partly as insurance against exactly that, and Cloud 9 is now the penultimate event of the season and the last one held in the ocean before Pipeline.
