What level do I need for surf guiding?

You should be catching and riding unbroken waves on your own, paddling out through whitewater without help and comfortable surfing over reef. If that is not you yet, our private coaching is the better fit.

How much does surf guiding cost?

It depends on the plan: a dawn drop-off at Cloud 9 costs less than a boat to Rock Island or a day trip to Pacifico. Message us on WhatsApp with your dates and level and we will send a quote.

Which spots do you guide to?

Cloud 9, Jacking Horse on size, Tuason Point, the Quicksilver lefts, Stimpy's and Rock Island by boat, and Pacifico on the north coast. Where we go on a given day depends on tide, swell direction and wind.

Do I need my own board?

No. Our fleet includes shortboards from Pyzel, Lost, Channel Islands and others, plus funboards and longboards. If you bring your own board we are happy to guide you on it.

Is Cloud 9 open during the Philippines Pro?

No. The main peak closes to the public from 31 October to 10 November 2026 while the WSL event runs. We guide to other spots during that window, and the north coast and the boat breaks are often at their best.

Surf guiding is for people who can already surf and want to make the most of a short trip to a reef island they do not know. You bring the ability; we bring the local knowledge: which of the dozen breaks is working on this tide with this swell angle, when to be in the water, how to get there before the crowd, and someone in the lineup who can tell you where to sit. There is no fixed price because a dawn drop-off in town and a boat to the northern points are very different days. Message us on WhatsApp and we will quote for your plan.

Who this is for

Intermediate and advanced surfers. In practice that means you catch and ride green waves on your own, paddle out through whitewater unassisted and are comfortable, or want to become comfortable, over reef. If you are still working on your pop-up or your turns, book private coaching instead; guiding puts you in the right wave, it does not teach you how to ride it.

What we actually do

The night before. We check the tide table, the swell direction and period, and the wind for the morning. Then we message you a plan and a pick-up time. Sometimes the plan is 5 a.m.; sometimes it is "sleep in, the tide is wrong until ten".

Spot selection. This is the core of the service. The General Luna reefs want water on them and an east to northeast swell; Tuason wakes up when the angle goes north; the boat breaks want a long-period groundswell; the north coast saves the day when General Luna is blown out or overrun. Our surf spots guide explains the reasoning; guiding applies it to your dates.

In the water. Your guide paddles out with you, shows you where the peak is, where the channel is and where the reef is shallow, and helps you read priority in a crowded lineup. On the boat breaks that includes the entry and exit over lava rock.

Video feedback. Where the spot allows it we film from the beach, the boardwalk or the boat and go through the clips with you afterwards, either on the beach or on the shop screen. Most people are surprised by what they see, and most of them surf better the next day because of it.

Where we go

Cloud 9. Dawn drop-offs on a rising mid-to-high tide, before the crowd. A short, hollow right with a real barrel section; only for surfers who are comfortable in steep reef waves and a busy lineup. Closed to the public 31 October to 10 November 2026 for the Philippines Pro.
Jacking Horse on size. When the swell comes up the beginner wave turns into a long, fun wall that longboarders and funboard riders love.
Tuason Point. A fast left-and-right wedge that lights up on a northerly angle. Shallow inside, punishes hesitation, rewards commitment.
Quicksilver / Cloud 9 lefts. Shorter and less consistent than the right, and much less crowded when the main peak is full.
Stimpy's and Rock Island by boat. Long, mechanical left-hand pointbreaks north of General Luna, roughly an hour each way by banca. We organise the boat, know the entry, and bring reef booties for the rock.
Pacifico day trips. The north coast: open-ocean swell, long walls and a fraction of the crowd, about ninety minutes by bike or car from General Luna. We make a day of it, with a second session on the way back if the tide agrees.

Boat hire, fuel and long transfers change the cost from day to day, so we quote each plan separately and tell you up front what is included.

What to bring

Your own board if you have one, or tell us what you ride and we will match it from our rental fleet. Reef booties are useful for the boat breaks and Tuason; we have some, but your own fit better. Sunscreen, water, a hat, and a little cash for the boat crew and lunch on the road.

Tip: Be honest about your level when you message us. Almost everyone overestimates by one step, and the reef does not grade on effort. Tell us where you surf at home and how often, and we will put you in a wave you will enjoy rather than survive.
